Chapter in focus - H.O.G. Limpopo
Far removed from the hustle and bustle of most of the Gauteng Chapters, this small Limpopo Chapter, formed with only 5 members and were determined to cater for Harley-Davidson riders in the northernmost province of South Africa - Limpopo, mostly riding their favourite routes to Mpumalanga.
They are actively 56 members from the region and these long standing Members are certainly not a timid bunch. From their eldest member Ben Pretorius (65) to their youngest Amelia Breytenbach (31) their average group of riders are 45 to 50 year of age. What is more surprising is that they have more female members than gents and for the Chapter size proudly have 5 Life Members!
Being so far from a Dealership, Limpopo Chapter sponsored by Harley-Davidson® dealership Pretoria does not have the daily direct dealer involvement such as their counterparts receive and no Club House to call home, however their strongest point in this small intimate Chapter is the “Harley family” bond shared. Socials are regularly held every 3rd week on a Thursday evening at a likable restaurant in Tzaneen and Polokwane. When it comes to imagination Limpopo members have the most colourful and well thought of dress ideas, they can do the part in costume with spectacular flair.
There is no lack in organization of some of the most beautiful scenic rides with around 20 motorcycles per outride. Once their most popular mode of transport being the ROAD KING which quite a few members are proud owners of are packed, they regularly set off to enjoy outrides or official one/two nighters arranged by the EXCO and Committee anywhere in Mpumalanga, Limpopo or Gauteng. Organised Touring Rallies to Africa Bike Week and Skeleton Coast ensure long distance riding with great events at the destination in mind; the next Touring Rally is was planned to the West Coast Rally in October 2018.
Their recent “Bosveld Bibber” weekend took place at Lapeng near Lydenburg where 750km was travelled via little towns such as Rossenekal and Stofberg. Experiencing the beauty of our country, sitting around a camp fire while tame Njala buck trot non plussed around the chalets. Sadly Limpopo Chapter feels that there are quite a few National Rallies presented in our beautiful country and they are great supporters by attending Events and Rallies hosted by H.O.G.® Chapters across the country and their attendance is most appreciated by fellow Chapters for their support in Charitable Events.
It would be a treat to have H.O.G. International visitors to see and experience the beauty of their region after all it is one of South Africa’s most adventurous nooks and worthwhile exploring. Sister Chapters visit the area at least once a year and on these occasions Limpopo Chapter meet and greet with a social visit.
Limpopo Chapter's culture is captured in their vision:
“When you're in the Harley Owners Group, you're part of something bigger than YOURSELF! Keep it Real !”
